Passive sampling offers several advantages over conventional sampling. The sampler is in place for a longer period of time (often days or weeks), accumulating the analytes. The result is an average of the concentration during this time, which eliminates the risk of non-detection of, for example, occasional peaks in emitted pollutants. We offer passive samplers for non-polar organic compounds (e g PAH, PCB, PCDD), for PFAS and for metals and anions. A common property of these three sampler types is that they exclusively sample the bioavailable fraction, i e the part that can be taken up by organisms.
For the DGT samplers (PFAS as well as metals and anions), the binding gel uptake rate is temperature sensitive. Therefore it is important to log the temperature during the deployment time. If the temperature is expected to vary more than 2 degrees Celsius, a Temperature Data Logger can be used. ALS has Temperature Data Loggers for rent.

2 PRC: performance reference compounds; compounds that have been added to the membrane in order to enable the compensation for variability in, e.g., temperature. The analysis of PRC in a field blank gives a better start value for the PRC level, resulting in a better estimation of ambient concentrations in your samples.
