ALS Scandinavia offers plutonium isotope analysis of 239Pu and 240Pu.
The analysis of plutonium (Pu) isotopes is primarily carried out by ICP-SFMS (high resolution ICP-MS). ALS Scandinavia has developed a matrix separation method that is applied on prior to analysis for significantly improved measurement uncertainty.

Research - Plutonium isotope analysis
Our isotope research is done in close co-operation with several external institutions, particularly the Divisions of Applied Geology and Chemistry at Luleå University of Technology. Our research has resulted in the below publication(s) relating to plutonium isotope analysis:
- Determination of plutonium concentrations and isotope ratios in environmental samples with a double-focusing sector field ICP-MS
- Separation of plutonium from soil and sediment prior to determination by ICP-MS
About plutonium isotopes
Pu-239 is virtually nonexistent naturally but made for use in nuclear reactors or in the production of nuclear weapons.
The nuclides Pu-239 and Pu-240 are listed in the EU Directive 2013&51/EURATOM. The purpose of this directive is protecting the general public by analysis of radioactive substances intended for human consumption. ALS offers plutonium isotope analysis of water.
