ALS Scandinavia offers osmium isotope analysis of 187Os and 188Os. Analysis of osmium isotope ratios is useful in a variety of fields including:
- Pollution source tracing
- Exposure source tracing
The analysis of osmium (Os) isotopes can be carried out by two techniques, ICP-SFMS (high resolution ICP-MS) and MC-ICP-SFMS (multicollector ICP-SFMS). ALS Scandinavia has developed a matrix separation method that can be applied on prior to analysis for significantly improved measurement uncertainty.

Research - Osmium isotope analysis
Our isotope research is done in close co-operation with several external institutions, particularly the Divisions of Applied Geology and Chemistry at Luleå University of Technology. Our research has resulted in the below publication(s) relating to osmium isotope analysis:
- Simplified method for the Re-Os dating of molybdenite using acid digestion and isotope dilution ICP-MS
- Tracing Os pollution sources using isotope signatures
- Evaluation of simultaneous analyte leaching/vapour phase introduction for direct osmium isotope ratio measurements in solid samples by double-focusing sector field ICP-MS
- A high-throughput method for the determination of Os concentrations and isotope ratio measurements in small-size biological samples
